Robert Luther Raper
Robert Luther Raper, 86, of Desert Rd., Carrollton, died unexpectedly in his home Monday, June 7, 2010.
Born Jan. 18, 1924, in Cherokee County, North Carolina, he was a son of the late Edgar and Carrie Webster Raper.
Robert was a retired employee of Republic Steel in Canton and was a US Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Cherokee Indian tribe of North Carolina, the Steelworker Organization of Active Retirees and attended Carrollton Baptist Temple.
Raper is survived by his wife, the former Doris Hawkins, whom he married Jan. 11, 1987; two sons, Robert (Martha) Raper Jr. of Canton, and Mark (Tammie) Raper of Carrollton; one daughter, Mary (Pete) Peterson of Portage, WI; four grandchildren, two sisters, Frankie Hunter and Bessie Dunn, both of Murphy, NC.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Nora Raper, one brother and one sister.
Private family services will be held at Bethany Cemetery in Cherokee County, North Carolina. Local arrangements were under the care and guidance of Sweeny-Dodds Funeral Home in Carrollton. |
