Hobart F. (Herb) Burgess

Hobart F. (Herb) Burgess, 83, formerly of Carrollton, passed away Aug. 11, 2010 in Brandon, FL, surrounded by his family.

Born Dec. 12, 1926, in Reeder, WVA, he was the son of the late Bruce and May (Sheets) Burgess. He served with the 674th Paratroop Field Artillery Battalion in WW II and retired after 36 years from Weirton Steel Corporation in Weirton, WVA. He was a member of the Elks and American Legion Post 0146.

He is survived by three children: Mike Burgess (Rhonda) of Malvern, Michele (John) Truitt of Loretto, TN, and Melissa Burgess (Rick) of Tampa, FL; three grandchildren, Jason (Beth) Snyder, Sabrina Snyder and Justin Burgess; two great grandchildren; three sisters, Maxine (James) Waldo and Emma Lou (Bob) Numbers, both of Dover, and Dean (Dwayne) Leggett of Buchannan, WVA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers, William, Charles, Bernard, Max, Sherrell and Jim Burgess; and one sister, Alice.
Arrangements for burial are pending following cremation.
