Judson Wells Martt
Judson Wells Martt, age 97, died July 26, 2013, at Copeland Oaks Care Center in Sebring.
He was born July 6, 1916, near Zanesville.
His education started in a one-room school. He graduated from Lash High School in 1934 and The Ohio State University (OSU) in 1940 with a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
After graduating from OSU, he worked as an engineer for Marion Power Shovel Company, Curtiss-Wright Airplane Company, and the Weirton Steel Division of National Steel from which he retired in 1981 as the vice president of Engineering & Construction.
During his retirement, he developed and maintained a tree farm in Amsterdam, OH, his home for over 40 years. He always had an avid interest in airplanes, automobiles and classical music, maintained several acres of farm crops and continued to do mechanical design work into his 80s.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church, the Masons and American Iron and Steel Institute.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Francy Martt of Toronto; children, Macy Reynolds of Yellow Springs, Jane Boone of Amsterdam, Judson F. Martt of Columbus, Daniel Martt of Bethel Park, PA, Susy Dinger of Amsterdam, William Martt of Yellow Springs; and Shirley Kendrick of Oklahoma City, OK; a sister, Margaret Thurston of Gaithersburg, MD; nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, J. F. Martt; his mother, Helen Minnich Martt; brother, Ernest Martt of Chagrin Falls; and two brothers in WW II, William (Iwo Jima) and Edward (Philippines).
