Carrollton High School girls cross country
The Carrollton Lady Warriors cross country team won the Division II-A race at Cambridge with 38 points.

The Carrollton Lady Warrior cross country team began its run for the State meet last Saturday at the Division II District meet at Cambridge High School.

The Lady Warriors placed first in the Division II-A race with 38 points, while the boys did nearly as well, placing third with 90 points in the boys Division II-B race.

Carrollton freshman Maddie Dunlap ran away from the field to place first with a time of 19:05.73 to lead the Warriors, who placed four runners in the top 10.

The top four teams and top 16 individuals not on qualifying teams advanced to this Saturday’s regional meet at Pickerington.

Freshman Hailey Wells was next in fourth place with a time of 19:50.57, senior Naomi Young was fifth with a time of 19:56.35, senior Taylar Bennett seventh with a time of 20:11.43, junior Janesa Bell placed 21st with a time of 21:33.63, senior Lindsay Schandel was 28th with a time of 22:16.33 and freshman Maddie Formet 33rd with a time of 22:3.07.

Minerva finished in seventh place with 162 points and failed to qualify any runners for the regional meet. Emmalee Carver paced the Lions with a 17th place finish with a time of 21:11.75.

West Holmes was a distant second with 61 points, Morgan County was third with 74 and Sandy Valley fourth with 117 points.

The Cardinals were led by sophomore Andra Lehotay who placed 14th with a time of 20:52.64.

The Warriors Joey Knipp and Cole Lovett run at the District meet last Saturday at Cambridge. The boys placed third and qualified for the regional tournament at Pickerington this Saturday.

On the boys side, junior John Brown led the way for the Warriors with a fifth place finish with a time of 17:19.51.

Following Brown were sophomore Joey Knipp in 13th place with a time of 17:36.40, freshman Cole Lovett in 14th with a time of 17:41.49, freshman Quinton Huggett in 33rd with a time of 18:50.99, sophomore Luke Leslie in 34th with a time of 18:55.06, junior John Dunlap in 37th with a time of 19:00.81 and junior Andrew Knapp in 46th with a time of 19:40.32.

West Holmes won the team championship with 29 points. Indian Valley was second with 54.

Sandy Valley took the final qualifying spot with 97 points. Sophomore Corbin Brown led the Cardinals with a 10th place finish with a time of 17:29.62.

Minerva placed seventh out of the eight teams with 160 points. Sophomore Duncan Freeland qualified for the regional meet by placing 13th with a time of 17:32.06.

In the Division III race, the Malvern Hornets placed sixth with 183 points.

Senior Keaton Furey placed 27th to lead the Hornets with a time of 18:34.95.

The Division II races will be run Saturday at Pickerington North High School at 11:45 a.m. for the girls and 2:15 p.m. for the boys.

The top four teams and individuals not on qualifying teams that place in the top 16 will move on to the State meet Nov. 2 at National Trail Raceway in Hebron.
