Sandy Valley, Malvern pick up IVC wins

Sandy Valley 28, Tuscarawas Central Catholic 0

Cardinal junior quarterback Lucas Dieffenbaugher scored twice for Sandy Valley on runs of 5 and 2-yards, while Nate Shepler added a score on a 15-yard jaunt and Jaret Oliver hit paydirt in the third quarter on a 10-yard run.

Sandy Valley rushed 52 times for 245 yards and had only one completion for 12-yards.

The Cardinals will be on the road Friday night for a big Inter-Valley Conference game at Newcomerstown.

Malvern 35, East Canton 21
The Hornets’ Cobin Plessinger carried the ball 48 times for 264 yards and scored on runs of 3, 2 and 42-yards to lead Malvern to a 35-21 Inter-Valley Conference win over East Canton in the annual Hornet Bowl at Malvern.

Malvern ran the ball 69 times for 328 yards and senior quarterback Trey Tucci hit 10-of-18 passes for 113-yards with a touchdown pass of 21-yards to freshman Jaret Majestic. Malvern’s first score came on the defensive side of the ball as senior Anthony Ruegg recovered an East Canton fumble in the end zone.

Malvern will host Garaway Friday night.

Marlington 34, Minerva 33
It was a real barnburner last Friday night in Minerva.

Minerva quarterback Josey Riley scored on a 46-yard run with 1:42 left in the game. The Lions chose to go for the win, instead of the tie.

The run for the two-point conversion was stopped by the Marlington defense preserving a 34-33 Northeastern Buckeye Conference win for the Dukes.

Dalton Hartshorn rushed for 215 yards and Cody Parrish added 115 yards for the Lions.

Adam Blake led the Dukes on the ground with 119 yards. Quarterback Shawn Kirk scored on runs of 51 and 1-yards and also threw a one-yard touchdown pass to Chris Andrews.

The Marlington defense returned two Minerva pass interceptions for touchdowns.

The Lions will be at Salem Friday night.
