Annual extravaganza marks end of summer; back to school

With the first day of school right around the corner, the annual Back to School Safety and Wellness Extravaganza will take place Aug. 12 from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Carroll County Fairgrounds just north of Carrollton on SR 9 (Kensington Rd.).

Safe Kids Carroll County wants to help kick off the school year right by inviting the public to the event.

Those attending can participate in a variety of interactive safety and wellness stations providing education on safety in the home, vehicles, sun and water. Along with safety tips for playing sports and riding a bike. Information on nutrition, physical activity and more will be available. Free haircuts, raffles and giveaways will also be provided.

The Carroll County Early Childhood Coordinating Committee will sponsor free preschool screenings that include hearing, vision, dental and medical screenings. Parents must bring child’s shot record for screening. The Carroll County General Health District Nursing Division will check immunization records to make sure the child is up to date.
