Hornets, Cards compete in IVC meet

NEWCOMERSTOWN – The Inter-Valley Conference held its annual Track and Field Championships last Friday evening at Newcomerstown high school.

In boys action, the Sandy Valley boys placed 6th with 50 points, while Malvern was 7th with 29 points.

For the Cardinals, placing second were the 3,200-meter relay team of Bronson Frank, Isaac Knight, Michael Lewton and Aleks Rymer and Connor Finnicum in the shot put to earn All-IVC honors.

Placing third were, Francesco Borsellino in the shot put; Kinzy Swiger in the discus and Rymer in the 800-meter run. Placing sixth was the 1,600-meter relay team of Lewton, Bronson Frank, Jordon Finlayson and Rymer.

For Malvern, Brandon Patterson recorded a second and third. He finished second in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 4:46.97 and third in the 3,200 with a time of 10:24.70.

On the girls’ side, the Cardinals placed 6th with 54 points, while Malvern placed 5th with 63 points.

Sandy Valley had one IVC champion in Baylee Offenberger in the high jump with a jump of 4’8”. Halie Sciury placed second in the long jump with a leap of 16’1. 5”. Olivia Costello finished third in the 400-meter dash for the Cardinals.

For Malvern, the Hornets had a pair of double winners. Kelsi Hulit won the shot and discus with throws of 123’10” and 38’5. 75’.

Zoe Moser added two record- breaking wins in the 100 and 200-meter dashes with times of 12.63 and 26.13.

Placing second for Malvern was the 400-meter relay team of Vanessa Stanbro, Lauren Foster, Hulit and Moser.
