Students in Brittany Smith’s reading intervention group at Dellroy elementary work daily to stay successful in the classroom.
The students work on Book Bags lessons, all inclusive lessons with grade level books, during intervention time. Once finished, the students will be able to fluently read a third grade level book, understand and comprehend the passage provided. Book bags also include KWL (What I know, What I want to learn, What I’ve learned) charts, targeted vocabulary words and definitions and phonics skills.
“When you step into our intervention room, you feel welcome and safe where there are no derogatory remarks or connotations,” said Smith. “It is a fun place to learn and expand each student’s own way of thinking.”
