Grayce O. McKibben, 93, of Cadiz, died Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2012 at the Harrison County Home, Cadiz. She was born Sept. 5, 1919 in Holloway, a daughter of the late Edward Jacob and Ella VanFossen Kappel.
Grayce was a member of Rankin United Methodist Church and served as the Secretary for Asbury Greater Parish for many years. While attending secretarial school in Wheeling, she routinely hitchhiked home to Holloway. She also worked as a clerk at the former Cadiz Color Center. She loved gardening and bird watching, making homemade ice cream, reading and playing word games, bowling, picking wild raspberries and spending time with her grandchildren. She hosted family reunions and sold World Book Encyclopedia and Amway products. She was an avid Cleveland Indians and Browns fan. For 40 years she was the Cassville correspondent for the Harrison News Herald.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Howard McKibben in 1979; a daughter, Sandra McKibben; five sisters, Luella Kaiser, Elizabeth Kane, Vera Dunlap, Mary Freeman, and Ethel Walton; and a brother, Donald Kappel.
Surviving are a daughter, Pam (Kevin) Singhaus; two sons, Keith (Cynthia) McKibben and Jay (Florence) McKibben, all of Cadiz; grandchildren: Christy (Nate) Mencer, Kevin Brandon (Beth) Singhaus, Josh McKibben (Hanna Mauk), Travis Singhaus (Danielle Heckert), Sarah McKibben (Alec), Stacey (Tom) Gamble and Stephanie Wilson; great grandchildren: Ashley, Taylor, Garrett and Madison; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012 from 2-5 p.m. at Clark-Kirkland Funeral Home, Cadiz. Funeral services will be held Monday, Oct. 29, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Rankin United Methodist Church with the Rev. James Willson officiating. Burial will follow at Rankin Church Cemetery.
