Phillip D. “Phil” Ferguson, 84, of Mingo Junction, Ohio passed away Sunday September 7, 2014 in the emergency room at Trinity Medical Center West.
He was born November 24, 1929 in Bellaire, Ohio, a son of the late Wallace and Pearl (Campbell) Ferguson. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Doris (Strautman) Ferguson, on April 20, 2003; a step-daughter, Jackie Caldwell; two brothers, Richard “Dick” Ferguson and Wallace J. Ferguson; an infant sister; and a step-grandson, Eric Caldwell.
Phil retired in 1995 where he worked as a truck loader for Weirton Steel Corp. He served his country in the U.S. Army where he was a paratrooper. Phil was a member of the Brilliant American Legion Post 573, the Wells Township Sportsman Club and the Brilliant Christian Church. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and liked to tinker with woodworking and making fishing lures.
Surviving are a step-daughter, Dawn (Allen) Cope of Cadiz, Ohio; a step-son-in-law, Woody Caldwell of Bowerstown, Ohio; a step-son, Robert (Connie) Sinsell of Revenna, Ohio; eight step-grandchildren, Brock Caldwell, Tiffany (Jon) Penix, Ashley (Matt) Beale, Tracy Horn and her companion Calvin Logan, Chad (Kristen) Horn, Samantha (Robert) Lamtman, Jessica Sinsell and Troy Sinsell; seven step-great-grandchildren; three nephews, Rich, Doug and John Ferguson; and his special friend, Jim McDonald of Brilliant, Ohio.
Friends will be received at the Wheeler Funeral Home, 712 Third St., Brilliant, on Saturday from 10 a.m. until 12 noon, when military services will be conducted by the Brilliant American Legion Post 573. Private interment at Holly Memorial Gardens, Colerain, Ohio.
