Freda R ((Higgins) (Cunningham) Mansfield, age 90, of Canton, formally of Carrollton, passed away peacefully September 15, in Mercy Medical Center, Canton surrounded by her loving family. The daughter of Robert and Lillie(Earnest) Higgins, she was born in Mannington, W.Va. on Oct 12, 1923. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She worked a number of years at the Scio Pottery when she was younger. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband Joseph L. Cunningham (deceased March 3, 1970); sons Ronald Cunningham of Arizona and Herbert Cunningham of South Carolina; second husband Burrell Mansfield (deceased Aug. 28, 1984); two great grandsons Chase and Connor Cunningham; brothers Robert Higgins and Bertis “Pete” Higgins; sisters Betty June Higgins, Mildred Stevens and Lillian “Eleanor” Riggs all of W.Va.
She is survived by sons David “Paul” Cunningham Sr. of Carrollton, Michael Cunningham Sr. of Jewett, Edgar “Lynn” (Nancy) Cunningham of Cadiz; daughters Ruth Reed of Canton and Susan Dalton of Waynesburg; stepdaughter Sharon (Mansfield) Shepherd; sister Helen “Louise” (Francis) Hayhurst of Canton; brothers Harold (Alberta) Higgins and Frank (Norma) Higgins both of West Virginia and Donald (June) Higgins of Hartville; 20 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren and three great, great grandchildren.
Calling hours will be from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19 at the Koch Funeral Home in Scio, Ohio. Service will be immediately following at noon with her grandson Pastor Mike Cunningham Jr. officiating. Interment will be at the Greenwood Cemetery in Hopedale, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations to be made to local food pantries.
