William R. “Blackie” Simpson, 71, of Cadiz, formerly of Wintersville, went peacefully to be with the Lord after a brief illness, surrounded by his family, on Saturday, Nov. 08, at Trinity Medical Center West in Steubenville, Ohio. He was born August 16, 1943 in Steubenville, Ohio a son of the late Paul and Elizabeth Isaac Simpson, Sr. Pastor Blackie was the co-pastor along with his wife Jan at the Cadiz Community Church. He was a retired heavy equipment mechanic for International Mill Service at Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel in Mingo Junction. He also worked with his wife in surveying for several years. He collected and showed muscle cars and loved visiting Amish country. He was a good Christian man.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Betti Michael McElroy and a step-daughter, Nicole Smith. Surviving are his wife, Jan Wallace Simpson; a daughter, Theresa Simpson of Hopedale; a step-daughter, Deana (Doug) Arnold of New Athens; grandchildren: Christopher Baker, Amanda Oxley and Taylor Christman; great grandchildren: Logan, Christian and Caleb; two brothers: Arthur Simpson of Wintersville and Melvyn (Patricia) Simpson of Bloomingdale; and many loved nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held Tuesday, Nov. 11 from 5 until 8 p.m. at Clark-Kirkland Funeral Home, 172 S. Main St., Cadiz where funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m., with Rev. Ernest Creamer officiating. Burial will follow at Nottingham Church Cemetery, near Cadiz.
