Ruth Ann Campbell Copeland, 86, of Scio, formerly of Cadiz, died Monday, Nov. 24, at Trinity Medical Center, West in Steubenville. She was born December 4, 1927 in Cadiz Twp., Harrison County, Ohio, a daughter of the late Fred C. and Deane Riggs Martin.
Mrs. Copeland was a retired dispatcher for the Harrison County Highway Department and a member of Ridge Presbyterian Church near Scio. She was active with retarded children’s organizations and was a founder of the original Harrison County Mental Retardation Association. She was a local director of the American Cancer Society, owned the Leisure Shop and the Treasure Trove in Cadiz. She was an avid knitter, having made afghans for each family member in addition to various charities in the area. She belonged to the Card Club and the Elivians in Scio.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Donald Campbell in 1998 and her second husband, Leonard “Bud” Copeland in 2013; an infant brother, Robert Martin; a sister, Kathryn Mitchell and a brother, Jack Martin. Surviving are a son, Jerry Campbell of Cadiz; three daughters, Judith (Earl) Roth of Sherrodsville, Ohio, Jan Campbell of Marietta and Joan (John) Fisher of Cadiz; six grandchildren: Lydia (Ed) Mills, Matt (Lindsey) Hendershot, Chrissy (Chad) Wissinger, Melissa (Rob) Steadman, David (Tara) Campbell and Stephanie (Dave) Carbasho; nineteen great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; step-children: Patti (Dick) Snyder of Florida, Kathy (Danny) Shawver and Lenny Copeland of Scio; and a sister, Virginia Thompson of Mountain Home, AR.
A private service will be held at the convenience of the family at Clark-Kirkland Funeral Home, Cadiz. Interment will be in Unity Cemetery near New Athens.
