Ruth Autumn Liggett, 88, of Dennison, passed away on Jan. 23, at her home after a period of declining health. Born September 15, 1926 near Tappan Lake, she was a daughter of the late Earl William and Mary (Cramblett) Reed.
Ruth graduated from Dennison High School in 1944 and continued her education by attending Muskingum College to attain her Bachelor’s degree in teaching. She taught for both Dennison and Claymont schools. Ruth enjoyed singing and cooking, but her greatest joy came from spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church in Dennison.
On July 12, 1947, she married Willard C. Liggett who preceded her in death on July 21, 2014. They are survived by their children: Richard (Anita) Liggett of Dennison, Robert (Marcia) Liggett of Bolivar, Randy Liggett of Midvale, Marilyn Sue (Duce) Carlisle of the home, and David (Joni) Liggett of New Philadelphia; grandchildren: Mathew (Ruthie), Stephanie (Jai), Brian, Brett (Jamie), Melissa (James), Stacey, Kristi, Nikki (Shawn), Christopher (Kendra), Clantz, Colt (Molly), Jennifer (Tom), and Allison (Erick); 21 great-grandchildren; sister, Jean (Donald) Watson; nieces, Karen (Bob) Wilson and Linda Simpson; and many other extended family members. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a grandson, Scott Liggett; daughter-in-law, Vicki Liggett; sister- and brother-in-law, Ina Pearl and Jasper Simpson; nephew, Robert Simpson; and step-mother, Mildred Hauk Reed.
Services for Ruth, officiated by Pastor Brian Flood, will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 28, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison, with interment following at Uhrichsville’s Union Cemetery beside her beloved husband. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Those wishing to honor her memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to Community Hospice.
