obit Emolene Kovacik picAge 88, of Malvern passed away Monday, Jan. 26, in the Community Care Center in Alliance. She was born April 17, 1926, daughter of Franklin and Mae (Kelly) Mazeroski in Cadiz. She was born and raised in the Cadiz area and attended Cadiz High

School. She married Mike Kovacik in 1943. They moved to Malvern in 1950.

She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church where she was a member of the Catholic Women’s Club. She was active in the PTA, Malvern Band Boosters and Athletic Boosters when her sons were in school. She was an avid card player and member of the Mayola Card Club for over 60 years, along with playing cards at the Minerva Senior Center. She worked for many years at Krause’s I.G.A. and The Towne Shop Clothing store. She treasured spending time with family and friends; camping and fishing in Canada and nearby lakes and dancing to the big band music with husband Mike. She also enjoyed traveling and sightseeing, bingo, bowling, working with her flowers and her pets.

Survivors include two sons, Michael D. and Gloria Kovacik of Minerva and Gary Lee

Kovacik of the home; four grandchildren; Steven M. (Roberta Kacenjar) Kovacik of

Parma Heights; James M. (Renee) Kovacik of Minerva, Heidi (Todd) Hoffmeyer of

Alliance and Curt (Mickell) Gehret of Springville, Utah; seven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Mike Kovacik, May 2, 1999 and two brothers, Robert and Donald Mazeroski.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Malvern with Fr. Victor Cinson ascelebrant. Burial will be in Bethlehem cemetery. Calling hours will be 9-11a.m. Thursday prior to services at the church. The family would like to express special thanks to Father Victor Cinson, the staff of the Alliance Community Care Center, the Alliance Visiting Nurses and Hospice, and the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church Women’s Club. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the St. Francis Xavier Church Hall Building Fund or the Alliance Visiting Nurse and Hospice Assoc.
