William D. Schrader, Sr., 80, of Jewett died Sunday, Feb. 8, at UPMC, Pittsburgh, Pa., surrounded by his loving family.
Born Oct. 8, 1934 in Lumberport, W.Va., he was a son of the late Archie Virgil Schrader and Nola Pearl McCarty Schrader. William honorably served his country in the US Marine Corp and was a welder for Y&O Nelms Mine number two then Harrison Mining in Hopedale for 28 years, retiring in 1997.
William was a member of the Hopedale Church of Christ, UMW Local #1304 and Scio American Legion Post #482. He enjoyed woodworking and loved riding and training horses.
Surviving are his wife Doris Ann Mills Schrader who he married March 12, 1956; children Terri (Robert Cologie) Mitchell and William D. (Cindy) Schrader, Jr. both of Cadiz, Michael (Nellie Ford) Schrader of Westerly, R.I., Jeffrey Schrader of Marysville and Cathy (Chris) Reese of Scio; sisters Shirley (Don) Stire of Cadiz, June (Carrol) Howe and Wilma Howe both of Lumberport, W.Va., and Eileen (Raymond) Newbrough of Jewett; grandchildren Karen, Amanda, David, Breanna, Cheyenne, Ryan, Kyle, Chelsea, Logan and Hunter and seven great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister Mary Anna Chrisman and a step grandson Chase.
Services will be held Thursday at noon in Koch Funeral Home, Scio with Pastor Dean Blythe officiating. Burial will follow in Holly Memorial Gardens, Colerain. Friends may call Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the donor’s choice.
