Kerrville- Frank Orville Murray, 90, of Ingram, Texas went to be with his Lord on Jan. 31, 2015.
Frank, a World War II Veteran was born Nov. 17, 1924 in Everson, Pennsylvania to John and Mabel Murray. They moved to a farm near Hopedale, Ohio where he grew up and attended Jewett High School. At 18 years old, he registered for the draft and was called up June 1, 1943. Frank served as a Flight Engineer in the 376th Heavy Bombardment Group, Army/Air Corp flying 52 missions on a B-24 Liberator bomber based in North Africa and later in southern Italy. He was later called up during the Korean Conflict by the Air Force in 1952 and was stationed in Texas. Frank married his beloved wife Ruth in 1953 and they settled in Houston. After a rewarding career with Avis Rent A Car, he retired and they moved to Ingram, where they continued to enjoy traveling, camping and began serving their church and community.
Frank was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church and served on many committees. He was a charter member of Hill Country Post #64 American Legion in Ingram, where he served for 7 years as Post Commander. He attended several Bible studies and mentored at the Pathways 3H Boys Ranch in Hunt, Texas.
Frank was preceded in death by his love of 57 years, Annie Ruth Noland Murray in Nov. 2010 and son, Frank Murray Jr. of Texas in Oct. 2003 and sister, Betty (Johnson) Hughes of Missouri in March 2001.
He is survived by two daughters, Colleen Kelley Murray of Austin, Texas, Linda (Paul) Mader of Hopedale, Ohio; four granddaughters, Lorrie, Vicki, Maureen and Marian; five great grandchildren; five great grandchildren; two brothers, John (Shirley) Murray of Cadiz, Ohio and Edward (Lydia) Murray of Hopedale, Ohio; two sisters, Verna Saltsman of Cadiz, Ohio and Lily DeVore of Bloomingdale, Ohio and many nieces and nephews.
Frank enjoyed life and lived each day to the fullest, an optimist who loved all of his family and friends dearly.
A memorial service celebrating Frank’s life will be held on Feb. 17, 2015, 2 p.m. at St Paul’s United Methodist Church including full military honors with Rev. Randall Hilburn officiating.
