Edward L. “Ed” Bell, 88, of Wintersville died Friday, March 13, at Trinity West, Steubenville. He was born in Piney Fork, Ohio on July 28, 1926 the son of the late Louis R. and Lelah Sickle Bell. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Kistner Bell; two sons, James Bell and Victor Cingolani and a brother George Bell.
Ed graduated from the class of 1944 from Smithfield High School and went on to enlist in the United States Air Force during WWII on December 26, 1944 and served as Flight Traffic Clerk with the 1504th AAF. He received the American Theater Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, Victory Medal and Good Conduct Medal overseas service bar and was discharged on October 1, 1946. Ed went on to graduate from The Ohio State University and Penn State University where he received his master’s degree in education. He was a retired educator from Franklin County School District where he taught science and math in Bexley, Ohio.
Ed loved to travel in his ford pickup and 5th wheel travel trailer where he had the opportunity to teach outdoor education. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Lena Corona Cingolani Bell; his children, Edward (Charlotte) Bell of Ashtabula, Ohio, Samuel (Laura) Bell of Hawthorne, Fla., Kathryn (Gene) Branham of Philo, Ohio, and Sandra S. (Ken) Reed of Richmond; 10 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren and a great-great grandson; and sister, Opal Curl of Canton, Ohio.
Friends may call at the Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Road, Wintersville on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., where funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. Pastor Gene Branham officiating. Burial will be at Patterson Cemetery, Deersville, Ohio. Full military honors will be held at the funeral home by Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad.
