Richard H. Mikesell, 93 of Cadiz, died Monday, March 16, at his home. He was born March 14, 1922 in Jewett, Ohio a son of the late Lawrence S. and Martha Wells
Mikesell, Sr. He was a member of Scott United Methodist Church in Cadiz and was the retired Postmaster of the Cadiz office. He was past master of Harrison Lodge, #219 F.&A.M., a member of the Scottish Rite, Valley of Steubenville; Harrison Chapter, Royal Arch Masons; and Unionport Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star. He was the master of ceremonies of Coal Festival Parades and Stages; was the 1980 Cadiz Lions’ Club Citizen of the Year; and was involved with the Barbershop Chorus, Barb’s Boys, the Scott Methodist Church Choir. He served as Chairman of the Cadiz High School Alumni Reunion Committee and the Scott Church Building Committee. He attended The Ohio State University, was a WW II Veteran of the Air Force, and a 69-year-member of the American Legion.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded by his first wife, Dorothy Jean Harmon Mikesell and a brother, Lawrence S. “Junie” Mikesell, Jr. He is survived by his wife, Leanna K. Parkinson Mikesell; two daughters: Jean (William) Wasko of Boca Raton, Fla., and Janet (Terrance) Davis of Wheaton, Ill.; three grandchildren; two great grandchildren; two step-children: Aaron Nelms and Susan Weatherbee; and five step-grandchildren.
Calling hours will be held Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Scott United Methodist Church, 817 E. Market St., Cadiz where funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Richard Hasley officiating. Burial will follow at Cadiz Union Cemetery. Masonic services will be held Thursday at 6 p.m. at the church.
