powellSarah Janis Powell, age 80, of New Philadelphia, passed away Thursday,
April 2, in Hennis Care Centre, Dover.

Born July 29, 1934, at New Athens, she was a daughter of the late
William and Margaret (Moore) Howes. Sarah graduated from Cadiz High
School, and was employed for many years by AAMCO Transmissions, in the
distribution warehouse, from which she retired.

She was a member of Dover Alliance Church and enjoyed reading The
Bible – her life revolved around faith and family. In days past,
she enjoyed camping and beach vacations.

Sarah will be sadly missed by her daughters, Margaret (Ronald “Bud”)
Blake of New Philadelphia, and Susan (Jay) Custer of Sugarcreek; her
grandchildren, to whom she was known as “Grammy,” Ashlee (Darrin)
Castello, Allison, Amy and Annie Blake, Sarah, Nicole and Maci Custer;
her great-grandchildren, Kaylyn and Deegan Castello; her sister,
Maryjane Barrett of New Philadelphia; her sister-in-law, Bette Howes
of Bonita Springs, Florida; her brother-in-law, Donald Liedtke of New
Philadelphia; and her nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Sarah was preceded in death by her long-time
companion, Jesse Duncan Hardesty; her sister, Norma Liedtke; and her
brothers, Charles, James and Wilbert Howes.

Family and friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral
Home & Crematory, 246 E. High Ave., New Philadelphia, on Monday, April
6, 5 – 8 p.m.  A funeral service will be held Tuesday, April 7, at 2
p.m., in the funeral home, with Pastor Richard G. Rose officiating.
Burial will be in East Avenue Cemetery at New Philadelphia. Following
the committal, there will be a meal in the Dover Alliance Church. To
