obit art 12Lester Vance Bonnell, age 88, of Scio passed away Wednesday, April 8, in Carroll Healthcare after a brief illness.

Born December 21, 1926 in East Liverpool he was a son of the late Riley Ray Bonnell and Martha Estelle Dudgeon Bonnell. Vance graduated from Scio High School in 1944 and honorably served his country during WWII in the US Army stationed in Japan. Vance, along with his brother, William “Ed” Bonnell operated Scio Roller Rink, which was started by their parents and operated for over 50 years. He also worked for North Twp. for over 30 years.

Vance was a member of the Scio American Legion Post #482 for 46 years.. He enjoyed being outdoors and watching wildlife but most of all he loved spending time with his family.

Preceding him in death are his sisters Wilma Ellen “Dolly” Gibson and husband Virgil, Marion Louise Beamer, and Gladia Jean Miller and brothers William Everett “Ed” Bonnell and wife Zoe, Floyd Stanley Bonnell and Riley Ray Bonnell, Jr.

Surviving are his brother Larry Bonnell and wife Linda of Texas, sister-in-law Nancy Crimm of Scio and numerous nieces and nephews that include his current caregivers Bill Bonnell of Scio and Pam Grim and husband Bill of Carrollton.

Services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in Koch Funeral Home, Scio with Rev. Sam Dobschuetz officiating. Burial will follow in Grandview Cemetery, Scio. Friends may call Friday from 6-8 p.m. and Saturday from 1-2 p.m. prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Scio American Legion Post #482 Auxiliary, 38175 Crimm Rd., Scio 43988 for funeral dinners.
