Albert Leroy “Abby” Hoagland, 71, of Bloomingdale, died Thursday, April 9, at his home as the result of a farming accident. He was born January 14, 1944, a son of the late Marion Earl Hoagland and Wilma J. Naylor Hoagland Abel.
Abby was a member of the Unionport Christian Church, the Unionport Lodge 333, F.&A.M. , the Scottish Rite, Valley of Steubenville, and Harrison Chapter 171, Royal Arch Masons. He was a retired employee of R. & F. Coal Company and Wilgus and Company in Cadiz, and was a lifelong farmer. He was a member of the NRA and enjoyed attending the Prime Time Lunches at the Unionport Community Center. He served as a Sergeant in the Army during the Vietnam Era and was a member of the Jewett VFW, Post 3072.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Francis and Randy Hoagland; a sister, Debra Ann Hoagland; his step-father Ralph Abel.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Marker Hoagland; a step-son, Charles (Cheryl) Myers of Bloomingdale; a step-daughter, Leslie Jeffries of Harrisville; five step-grandchildren; and four step-great grandchildren.
Friends may call Sunday, 3-7 p.m. at Clark-Kirkland Funeral Home, Cadiz where funeral services will be held Monday at 1:00 p.m., with Minister Jeremiah Kuttler officiating. Burial will follow at Bloomingdale Cemetery. A Masonic Service will be held Sunday at 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
