David L. Kernya, 66, of Elyria passed away Monday July 13, at his son’s home in Amherst following a brief illness. He was born July 7, 1949 in Steubenville and was an Elyria resident for most of his life. David was employed as a millwright at LTV Steel in Cleveland for 30 years, retiring in 1998.

He enjoyed singing Karaoke and restoring old cars and Harley-Davidsons. Survivors include his daughter, Rhonda (Ken) Hoover of Mount Eaton, Ohio; sons, David (Patience Link) Kernya of Amherst and Brad (Terri) Kernya of Elyria; grandson, Devan; great granddaughter, Sophia; sister, Sandra (Bob, deceased) Maffiet of Mentor; brother, Mike Kernya of Cadiz, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his former wife, Gloria, and a brother, John Kernya.

There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held Saturday July 25, at 11 a.m. at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57), Elyria. The Rev. Chuck Behrens, Chaplain of Hospice of the Western Reserve will Officiate. Burial will be private.
