David L. Barker, 76, of Cadiz, died Friday, Sept. 11, at Union Hospital in Dover. He was born Aug. 26, 1939 in Wheeling, W.Va., a son of the late Archie John and Isabelle Laughrige Barker. Dave was a member of Scott United Methodist Church.
He worked at many jobs in his lifetime before retiring, including working at Sickle’s Garage, Cardinal Motors, Y&O Coal Company, Hanna Coal Company, Harding Coal Company, Blackstone Mining, Marietta Coal Company, manufacturing in Kidron, Ohio, and Nancy Flowers and Gifts in Cadiz. He was a member of the Cadiz Volunteer Fire Department for over forty years. He enjoyed camping, boating, and riding his golf cart; but especially loved playing with his grandchildren and family, and his dog, Molly. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenny and Don Barker; and a great grandson, David Lee Kovacs. Surviving are his wife, Judith Anderson Barker; three children, Debbie (Curly) Dixon of Cadiz, Michael Barker of Bowerston, and LeAnn (Dave) Butler of New Athens; nine grandchildren: Jenny, April, Amie, J.D., Kerri, Cassidy, Austin, Ashten and Jaycie; 10 great grandchildren; two brothers, Gary (Kathy) Barker of Cadiz and John (Ginny) Barker of Cambridge; and two sisters-in-law, Karen Barker of IL and Jan Barker of DE.
Services were held on Sept. 14 at Clark-Kirkland Funeral Home with Rev. Ashley Barker Steele officiating. Burial followed at Cadiz Union Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cadiz Volunteer Fire Department. Online condolences may be made at www.clark-kirkland.com.
