Melvin L. Howell, 87 of Cadiz, died Thursday, Nov.5, at the Community Hospice House in New Philadelphia surrounded by his family. He was born Aug. 21,1928 in Harrison County a son of the late Chester William and Susie Thompson Howell.
He was a retired dozer operator and oiler in the Mountaineer Pit of Consolidation Coal Co. and a member of the UMWA. He was an avid horseman and trail rider and enjoyed working on his farm and being with his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Misty Howell; a brother, Cloyd Howell; and four sisters, Dorothy Watson, Margie Murphy, Doris Kazleman and Louise Cornett.
Surviving are his wife and soul mate of 67 years, Luella R. Mills Howell; five sons: Eugene (Doreen) of Indiana, Larry (Bonnie) of Cadiz, Don (Barb) of Carrollton, Chuck
(Karen) of St. Clairsville and Terry (Rosebud) of Carrollton; two daughters: Dianne (Bob) Positano of Cadiz and Kathy (Dave) Norris of Scio; 17 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; three great, great grandchildren; and his canine buddy, “Ole Moe”.
Friends may call Monday from 2 p.m. until time of service at 4 p.m. at Clark-Kirkland Funeral Home, Cadiz. Rev. Wally Jancura will officiate.
