Christine Ann McKibben Mencer, age 41, of McGee Rd., Cadiz, died Saturday evening Nov. 21 as the result of a car accident. She was born March 16, 1974 in Wheeling, W.Va., a daughter of Jay and Florence Dunlap McKibben of Cadiz. Christy was a 1992 Cadiz High School graduate and a 1997 graduate of Belmont Technical College.
She was an accomplished basketball player throughout her high school career, having been named District 5 player of the year in the 1991-1992 basketball season. She married Nathaniel Mencer on September 7, 1996 at Rankin United Methodist Church. She began her career working for Dr. Scarpone, becoming his office manager at Trinity Sports Medicine. In 2010, Christy began coaching the Harrison Central Jr. High girls basketball team, which she did until the time of her death. Her love for sports led her to assisting with the newly-formed HC girls’ soccer team in 2013.
Christy was an avid gardener and an animal lover, having many pets as part of their family. Surviving, in addition to her parents, are her husband, Nate Mencer; two daughters, Ashley Ann and Taylor Grayce of the home; a brother Josh McKibben and his fiance Hannah Mauk of Cadiz; ; Nate’s parents, Roger and Melora Wallace Mencer of Hopedale; her sister-in-law Meghan (Paul) Hilligas of Columbus; nephews, Toby and Cale and niece Tessa Hilligas; her grandmother, Irene Dunlap of Cadiz; and Nate’s grandmother, Joy Mencer of Hopedale. Christy was preceded in death by maternal grandfather, Ralph Dunlap; paternal grandparents, Ernest and Grayce McKibben; Nate’s grandfather, Eldon Mencer; and an aunt, Sandra McKibben.
Friends may call Tuesday 2-4 and 5-8 p.m. at Deersville United Methodist Church, Deersville, Ohio, where funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. with Rev. James Cooper officiating.
