HawthorneFrances Jean Foresha Hawthorne, 87, of Cadiz, died Monday, Dec. 7, at Trinity Medical Center, West in Steubenville. She was born Oct. 31, 1928 in Follansbee, W.Va., a daughter of the late Alvia LeRoy and Dessie May Thompson Foresha. Mrs. Hawthorne was a retired telephone operator from GTE in Cadiz and the former Ohio Consolidated Phone Company in Jewett. She was a former member of Asbury Chapel UMC, played in the Jewett Women’s Softball League in the 1940’s, was a 1946 graduate of Jewett High School where she was a member of the band and the FFA. She sang in the Women’s Choir during WWII and her Church Choir. She was member of the Cadiz Aerie #2162 FOE Auxiliary, enjoyed crocheting and crafting, but mostly loved sharing the lives of her children and grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, George A., Paul L. and John Merle Foresha, and her former husband, John W. Hawthorne. Surviving are her six children, John F. and James, both of Cadiz, Walt (Deborah) Hawthorne of New Athens, Wayne (Maria) Hawthorne of St. Clairsville, Melissa (Craig) Davis of Newark and Danny (LeeAnn) Hawthorne of Weirton, W.Va.; 15 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Wilhelmina Jay of Mentor, Ohio, and Margaret Brown of San Diego, Calif.

Friends may call Thursday 4-7 at Clark-Kirkland Funeral Home, Cadiz, Ohio, where funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. with Paul Giffin officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Jewett, Ohio. Online condolences may be made at www.clark-kirkland.com.
