Ruth Addy Cropped MugRuth Eleanor Addy, age 90, of 523 Busby Drive, Bowerston, Ohio, died peacefully at the Community Hospice House at New Philadelphia Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 29,  following a brief illness.

She was born Aug. 14, 1925, in West Lafayette, Ohio, and was the daughter of the late Harrison Taylor Addy and Velma Beryl Mizer Addy. She graduated from the former Scio High School in 1943 and attended the Canton Actual Business College. She was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Women’s Army Corps. She worked at the Reeves Banking and Trust and Huntington National Bank for 25 years, retiring in 1984.

She was a past member of the Scio Order of Eastern Star and Midvale V.F.W. Ruth particularly enjoyed euchre, golf, bowling, fishing, swimming, and showing riding horses. Ruth was a member of the Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church at Tappan Lake. She attended the Senior Nutrition Center at Sherrodsville. Ruth and the late Gloria (Betty) Dutton shared a home for 21 years near Atwood Lake.

She is survived by a brother, Robert Taylor (Miriam) Addy of Scio, two nieces, Kathy Addy Bouska of Cadiz and her children Ryan and Josh (Jessi) Bumgardner and great-nephews Elias, Colton, and Jace, and Martha Addy (Steve) Shelby and their children Amanda and Garrett of Hamilton, Ohio, two nephews Harold “Gene” (Suneeti) Addy, of Cleveland Heights, Ohio, and Robert Mark (Kelly) Addy and their children Emily and Harrison of Cincinnati, Ohio.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother Harold E. Addy, a sister-in-law Carolyn Simpson Addy, a niece Sarah Addy Rogers and a nephew Gary D. Bouska. In keeping with Ruth’s wishes, she will be cremated and there will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be observed at 1 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 9,  in the Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church on State Route 250 at Tappan Lake with Rev. Mike Cunningham officiating. Interment of her ashes will follow in the church cemetery.
