Letha Lorraine Trotter McMannis, age 87, currently a resident at Sunnyslope Nursing Home, Bowesrton, formerly of Scio and Jewett passed away peacefully Monday, Jan. 11, in Community Hospice House, New Philadelphia.

Born April 22, 1928 in Jewett she was a daughter of the late Saunders and Ethel Aiken Trotter. A 1946 graduate from Jewett High School, Letha worked in the decal department at the Scio Pottery and was janitor at Jewett-Scio High School in the late 80’s, and for The First National Bank of Jewett, later Citizens Bank, for 25 years. She also served 18 years as COAD Foster Grandparent at Jewett Elementary. But what she was widely known for was her catering and baking service. Letha served hundred of weddings, parties, and dinners throughout her life. She also worked tirelessly for area communities, lending her many talents and skills to various organizations. She served as past member and President of the Jewett Junior Women’s Club; 30-plus year member and past President of the Jewett Volunteer Fire Department Women’s Auxiliary; President of the Jewett-Scio Band Boosters for 5 years; 25-year member of the Scio American Legion Post 482 Women’s Auxiliary, serving as President for 10 years;  member of the Scio Civic Club; and served as Democrat Central Committee member for the Village of Scio for several years;  For her dedication to her community Letha was named Jewett Citizen of the Year in 1996. She was also a member of the St. James Lutheran Church.

Letha also bowled for 44 years at Valie Lanes in Jewett from 1961 to 2005.  She served as a member of the McCook Women’s Bowling Association Board of Directors for 12 years.  Inducted into the McCook Women’s Bowling Hall of Fame in 2002 and named 2003 McCook Secretary of the Year.

Letha was preceded in death by her husband Woodrow “Woody” McMannis on June 13, 1983, they married Aug. 31, 1964. Also preceding her in death are brothers Newell B Trotter on Nov 23, 2007 and Byron R Trotter on Oct 17, 2014 and a sister-in-law Joyce Trotter on Nov. 16, 2014, a step son-in-law Domingo Jimenez and nephew Allen Bobot.

Surviving are a daughter  Sue Myers and son-in-law Sheriff Ronald J Myers of Scio; grandson Evan; step daughter Connie Jean McMannis Jimenez of Pacifica, CA; step granddaughter Denise Jimenez and step grandson Shawn (Stephanie) Jimenez and step great granddaughter Emily Jimenez, all of CA.sister-in-law Naomi Trotter of Cadiz nephews Thomas (Deborah) Trotter of Jewett, Timothy (Pat) Trotter of Cave Creek, AZ; nieces Saundra (Dr. Richard) Hendershot of Westminster, CO, Patricia Bobot of Harrisville and several great nieces and nephews.

Services will be held Friday at 11 am in Koch Funeral Home, Scio with Pastor Ray Lee officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Jewett.
