Homer Guy “Butch” Smith, Jr., 64, of Las Vegas, Nevada, formerly of Cadiz, Ohio, died Sunday, Jan. 17, in Las Vegas. He was born April 9, 1951 in Wheeling, W.Va., a son of the late Homer Guy Smith, Sr. and the late Lydia West Smith Mallory.

Butch was affiliated with St. James A.M.E. Church when he was in Cadiz. He was a avid golfer and enjoyed working with computers. He worked in security at the Treasure Island Casino in Las Vegas.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-father, Wilmore Mallory and two brothers, Lance and Roger Smith. Surviving are his children: Sean Strother of Suitland, Md., Javon’s Chatman of Washington, DC, Malik Smith of Ft. Washington, Md., Dawn (James) West of Cadiz and Nicole Garret of Capitol Heights, Md.; several grandchildren; two brothers, Tyrone (Patricia) Smith of Cadiz and Kim (Norma) Smith of Las Vegas; and three sisters, Barbara Jo (Charles) Gross of Cadiz, Gail Sheilds and Debbie Mallory of Steubenville.

A memorial service will be held Feb. 13,  at 2:30 p.m. at St. James A.M.E. Church in Cadiz with Rev. William Lewis officiating. Local arrangements are by Clark-Kirkland Funeral Home, Cadiz. Online condolences may be made at www.clark-kirkland.com.
