Margaret A. Hisrich, 72, passed away Monday, March 14, in Park Village Health Care Center, Dover, following a year’s battle with leukemia.
She was the daughter of the late Carl and Eleanor Piper Armstrong of New Philadelphia.
Margaret graduated in 1961 from St. Joseph High School in Dover, attended the College of Steubenville, and later earned her Master’s Degree in English from Ohio State University. She taught at Euclid High School one year, at Dover for three years, and was an Associate Professor, part-time adjunct faculty, of English at Kent State University – Tuscarawas Campus for twenty years. Margaret was honored as Teacher of the Year in 1999, and was in charge of the Writing Center before retiring in 2004.
She was an active member of St. Matthias Catholic Church in Freeport, where she was a lector, Eucharistic Minister and taught Religious Education for many years. Margaret loved gardening, reading and spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed volunteering with Mobile Meals of Tuscarawas County as well as other organizations. She was a very loving wife, mother and grandmother, and was blessed by many friends.
Margaret is survived by her husband of forty-nine years, Thomas; her children, Tom Jr., Ed (Julie), Ann Grenzenbach (Jared), and Richard (Sondra); her grandchildren, Matthew, Patrick, Kate, Joseph, Joshua, Megan, Emma and Henry; her sister, Sally Armstrong (companion, Mike Camola) of Cedarville, California; her brothers, Mike (Vicki) of Dover, and Jim (Becky) of Akron; and her several nieces and nephews.
A memorial visitation will be held Friday, March 18, 6 – 8:30 p.m., in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover. A Christian wake service will be conducted at 8:15 p.m. Fr. Frederick Kihm will celebrate a funeral Mass Saturday, March 19, at 10 a.m., in St. Matthias Catholic Church, Freeport. Burial will be in Freeport’s Greenmont Union Cemetery. Following the committal, all are invited back to St. Matthias for a lunch, where memories will be shared and Margaret’s life will continue to be celebrated.
