George Edward Lawver, age 67, of Scio passed away Thursday, March 10, in Trinity Medical Center West in Steubenville after a lengthy illness.

Born July 10, 1948 in Martins Ferry he was a son of the late Roy Curtis Lawver and Doris Joanne Blake Ferguson. He honorably served his country in the Army Special Forces “Wolfhounds” during the Vietnam War. He was a heavy equipment operator for R&F Coal and Oxford Mining retiring in 2008.

George was a devoted active member of the Hanover United Methodist Church and the Scio Food Pantry. In his younger days he enjoyed riding his dirt bike and was a CB operator under the handle “Wolfhound” and later in his life he enjoyed quiet walks on the Conotton Creek Trail with his dogs Chloe and Daisy.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend who will be sadly missed by his loving wife Janet L. Satterfield Lawver, who he married Oct. 19, 1968; a daughter Alicia Dawn Lawver of the home; a son Raymond (Sharon) Lawver of Vermillion; grandchildren Matthew, Steven, Audrey and Gina; brothers Roy C. “Junior” Lawver of Zanesville, Robert Eugene Ferguson of Bellaire, Gary “Ferg” (Karen) Ferguson of Wooster, Rusty Lee (Carol) Ferguson of Midvale; sisters Kathy (Bob) Sayre of Washington and Bonnie (Paul) Howell of Scio; father-in-law and mother-in-law Joe and Bernadine Satterfield of Bowerston; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Terry Satterfield of New Rumley, David Satterfield of Cadiz, Rick (Pam) Satterfield of Uhrichsville, Sandy Satterfield of Jewett, Larry (Lindee) Satterfield of Ancorage, Alaska, Gary Satterfield of Bowerston, Betty (Tom) Poland of Cadiz, Debbie Toker of Scio, Wanda Satterfield of Bowerston and Doug (Trish) Satterfield of Jewett, a cousin Vickie Richards of Adena and an aunt Evalene Dunlap of Naples, Florida, with whom he enjoyed nightly bible study phone calls over the past few months, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his stepfather Robert H. Ferguson, a brother Larry Lawver and grandparents Ed and Agnes Ferguson and George and Cora Blake.
