Barbara Ann Buell, age 76 of Sunbury died Thursday morning May 12, at her home.

She was born Aug. 17, 1939 in Moorefield Township, Harrison County, Ohio the daughter of the late Elijah Dean and Odessa Mae (Thompson) Wallace.

Barbara was a 1957 graduate of Freeport High and later worked for Nationwide Insurance in administration and as an insurance agent; retiring in 2004.

Before moving to Sunbury in 1962 she lived in Cadiz, Ohio and attended their Presbyterian Church. Once in Sunbury she became an active participant at the Condit Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Harlem Township Fire Department Wives Auxiliary from 1974-1982.

Barbara will be remembered as an outspoken, independent, and self-sufficient woman. She was a caregiver to both her family, taking great pride in their growth and achievements; the Harlem Township community, always willing to help out in times of struggle, specifically the blizzard of 1978, taking medical supplies and food to those in need; and the hired help on the family farm, by making them meals and helping out in any way necessary.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters and their spouses Serena and David Staugh of Delaware and Kendra and Michael Borror of Westerville; 12 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; brother Terry Dunlap of Wintersville, Ohio; and sisters Joyce Siragasano of Richmond, Ohio and Jan Simpson of Cadiz, Ohio.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her sister-in-law Tracy Dunlap; brothers-in-law Lou Siragasano and William “Blackie” Simpson; and a niece Nicole Smith.

Friends may call on the family on Sunday, May 15, from 2-5 p.m. at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, 637 North State Route 61, Sunbury, Ohio 43074. Funeral services will follow immediately at 5 p.m. with Rev. Annie Melick officiating. Graveside services will be held on Monday at 1 p.m. at the Nottingham Cemetery in Cadiz, Ohio.

In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made the Mission Fund at Condit Presbyterian Church.
