Charles Henry “Hennie” Brooks, Jr., 89, of Columbus, Ohio, formerly of Cleveland and Cadiz, Ohio, died Monday, June 6, at McNaughten Pointe Nursing Home in Columbus. He was born Aug. 9, 1926 in Cadiz, Ohio, a son of the late Charles H. Brooks, Sr. and the late Marcella Jones Brooks Ballard.

Mr. Brooks was a retired employee of the U.S. Post Office. He began work at the Cadiz Post Office and retired as a Postmaster in the Cleveland area. He was an avid golfer and once shot a hole in one. He was a Navy Veteran of WW II and was a lifetime member of the American Legion. He was a member of St. James AME Church in Cadiz.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-father, Robert Ballard; two brothers, Eugene and Hartzel Brooks; and three grandchildren.

Surviving are two sons, Charles H. Brooks, III and Michael O. (Rebecca) Brooks of Columbus; three daughters, Jacqueline (Les) Artman of Shaker Heights, Pamela Mason of Tampa, Fla., and Linda Sales of Clearwater, Fla.; thirteen grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; and one great grandson.

Friends may call Sunday from 3-7 p.m. at Clark-Kirkland Funeral Home, 172 S. Main St., Cadiz, Ohio, 43907.  Funeral services will be held Monday, June 13 at 1 p.m. at St. James A.M.E. Church, 301 E. Market St., Cadiz, Ohio, with Rev. Timothy Storms officiating.  Burial will follow at Cadiz Union Cemetery.  Miltiary honors will be provided by the Cadiz American Legion.
