Dwight D. “Doc” Spaar, 72, of Cadiz, died Wednesday, June 8, at Lifeline Hospital in Wintersville, Ohio. He was born Oct. 22, 1943 in Martins Ferry,  a son of the late Charles and Sarah Jeffers Spaar Claring.

He was the former Cadiz Police Chief and currently worked at Orme Hardware in Cadiz; he was an Army veteran having served during the Vietnam Era.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-father, Virgil Claring.

Doc is survived by his wife Sue Heinzman Spaar; two step-sons: Steve (Krista) Barcroft of East Liverpool and David (Amanda) Barcroft of Cadiz; five step-grandchildren: Alex, Tori, Julianna, Mia and Blake; a brother, Charles “Butch” Spaar of Cadiz;  his former wife, Janet Barcroft Spaar of Cadiz; and several foster children.

Calling hours will be held Monday, June 13 from 2 p.m.  until time of service at 6 p.m. at Clark-Kirkland Funeral Home, Cadiz with Paul Giffin officiating.  Military honors will be provided by the Cadiz American Legion. Police honor guard will be provided by the Cadiz Police Department.

Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
