Joy Y. Porter, 82, of Cadiz, died Tuesday, June 7, at OVMC in Wheeling, W.Va. She was born March 27, 1934 in McAllen, Texas, a daughter of the late Van and Mildred Cox.
Joy was a member of the First Church of God in Cadiz where she played the organ and piano. She served as an officer for the State Chapter of the Church of God and was the Treasurer for the North East Chapter of the Church of God Women’s Group. She served as a substitute teacher and taught GED classes.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Jack Cox.
She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Chester H. Porter; two sons: C. Scott (Kathy) Porter of Cadiz and Shawn Porter of Indianapolis; two daughters: Sheree (Dan) Ossman of Cadiz and Teresa (Dave) Gable of Simpsonville, S.C.; eight grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and five nieces and two nephews.
Visitation will be held Friday, June 10 from 2-4 and 6-8 at Clark-Kirkland Funeral Home, Cadiz, Ohio. Funeral service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the First Church of God, 227 West Warren Street, Cadiz with Rev. Samuel Betts and Rev. Craig Haney officiating. Burial will follow at Longview Cemetery, New Athens, Ohio.
