James Richard (Dick) Mills, 84, died August 6, 2018.
He was born on November 12, 1933 in Jewett, Ohio a son of the late Walter F. and Dorinda Mae Masters Mills.
Delores Jean (Fuller) Mills, died March 15, 2014 at the age of 78, at Sacred Heart Memorial Hospital in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida after an extended illness. She was born May 20, 1935 in New Athens, Ohio to Robert David Fuller and Dorothy Elizabeth Edwards Fuller Applegarth.
The couple drove to Greenup, Kentucky where they eloped on September 4, 1951 at the ages of 16 and 17. They celebrated 62 years of marriage before her death.
Dick was an avid stock car racer for over 20 years driving the Purple and White # 9. He worked at Warner Swasey for 16 years before moving to RC Bottling in Midvale. Following an extended illness, Dick acquired his Pilot’s license and flew his Cessna with Jean for many years for pure enjoyment.
Jean drove school bus for New Philadelphia School District before retiring after 20 years of service. Together they purchased Buss Refuse and owned that for many years before retiring.
Before moving to Jewett, Ohio, they raised their three children at Route #2 New Philadelphia, Ohio. Preceding them in death was one son Richard (Rick) Mills who died June 12, 2004; brother Edgar Mills, baby sister Dora Jean Mills and great grandchild, Quinn Dick and Jean are survived by two daughters: Dorothy Jean (Dotty) Obert (Bernie) of Pataskala, Ohio; Marcia J. Davis of Freeport, Florida and six siblings: Louise Harkins of Jewett, Ohio, Louella Howell of Cadiz, Ohio, Raymond Eugene Mills of Dover, Ohio, Leonard Mills of Cadiz, Ohio, Joy Bornhoft (Jim)of Tennessee and Edith Jones of Tennessee.
Together they have seven grandchildren: Corey R. Mills (Nikki) of Rootstown, Ohio, Nicole L. Markley (Dave) of New Philadelphia, Ohio, Jeremy Richard Mills of Dover, Ohio, Ryan James Wilhelm (Amanda) of Flower Mound, Texas, Steven Edward Wilhelm of Ft. Worth, Texas, Joshua Obert of Pataskala, Ohio and Jenelle Mills of Beaufort, NC and eight great grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, September 8, at 1:00 p.m. at Clark-Kirkland Funeral Home, Cadiz with Paul Giffin officiating. Burial will follow at Longview Cemetery, New Athens, Ohio. The memorial guestbook may be signed at www.clark-kirkland.com.
