Robert S. Taggart, age 91 of Moorefield, Ohio died peacefully surrounded by family at 6:59 a.m. Oct. 20, 2021 at Trinity West in Steubenville, Ohio. Robert was born Mar. 20, 1930 in New Athens, Ohio, a son of the late Samuel and Margaret (Howell) Taggart. He served in the U.S. Army 1948-1960 and 1969-1993. He retired in October 1993 as an SSG E6 from 660th Transportation Company in Cadiz, Ohio, a welder for Humes Trucking in Steubenville and Consol Coal Co., and retired from deep mine Osage No. 3 Mine in Morgantown, West Virginia.
Bob loved to garden, especially sunflowers. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, and spending time with family; he loved his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Evelyn June (Glover) Taggart on Feb. 7, 2007. In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by his son Robert David Taggart on Dec. 7, 2019, a brother, and a special niece Pam (Glover) Doane.
Surviving are his daughter Melinda June Ornouski of Moorefield; grandchildren, Rick (Ty Phillips) Scott, Angela Erickson of Canton, Stephanie (Aaron) Sword of Lodi, and Michael (Lori) Doane of Freeport; six great-grandchildren, Hunter, Makayla, Easton, Tommy, Logan, and Shawna; a great-great-granddaughter, Mila; and a brother, Edward Taggart of Mineral City.
His service was Saturday, Oct. 23 at Koch Funeral Home with Rick Moore officiating and a special military honor by Jerry Sword. A military graveside service and burial was held at Moorefield Cemetery.
