Brown Local school officials are hoping the third time is the charm when voters of the school district go to the polls at a special election Tuesday, Aug. 4. Voters are being asked for the third time to approve a 5.8-mill tax levy renewal to avoid an operating deficit. The levy, which yields $700,000 annually, amounts to 58 cents per $100 of property valuation for ten years, commencing in 2015, first due in calendar year 2016. The seven precincts in the Brown Local School District have been consolidated into three locations, according to officials of the Carroll County Board of Elections. Residents of Mohawk precinct are to vote at the Clubhouse at Lake Mohawk. The First
Christian Church at 4046 Coral Rd., Malvern will be the voting site for residents of Malvern, Brown A, Brown B and Brown C precincts. Voters in Harrison A and Harrison B precincts are to vote at the Carrollton Believers Fellowship Church, the former Presbyterian Church, in New Harrisburg. Polls will remain open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:03 p.m. Persons wishing to cast an absentee ballot at the Carroll County Board of Elections on the ground level of the courthouse in Carrolton may do so until 2 p.m. Aug. 3. The same levy request was first defeated by 167 votes in November 2014 and lost by four votes at a May election.
