Newell was named a “Firefighter for Life” by the department and presented a plaque during the department’s recent spaghetti dinner.

“He was one the founding members of the department,” said Terry Sanders, Sherrodsville Community Fire chief. “Bud helped build this department.”

Sanders noted the entire Newell family was involved in the fire and ambulance department for many years.

Bud’s wife was a member of the ladies auxiliary and his sons, Greg, Denny (both deceased) and Kevin were all members of the EMS.

“We thank Bud for his years of service,” Sanders said.

Newell, who humbly accepted, noted he was also involved in the EMS program. “We had a lot of fun,” he said.

Newell, a lifelong Sherrodsville resident, is a retired bus driver for Conotton Valley schools and continues to serve on village council.
