Canton man indicted for bank robbery

A Canton man accused of robbing the Huntington Bank branch in Carrollton Oct. 2 was indicted by a Federal grand jury Jan. 12.

Cortez Kenyada Devo Williams, 24, of Canton was indicted in Federal Court Jan. 12 on three charges of bank robbery. Williams is accused of robbing the Huntington Bank branch in Ravenna on two separate occasions as well as the Carrollton Huntington branch. He is scheduled to appear before Judge John R. Adams in Federal District Court in Akron Jan. 20 for an arraignment hearing.

Carrollton Police Chief Bob Ellington said Williams was arrested Dec. 22 in an apartment on Tuscarawas Ave., in Canton after Carrollton Police and members of the Carroll County Sheriff’s Department and Federal Bureau of Investigations conducted raids at two locations.

Ellington said after the robbery, key pieces of evidence were processed at the bank, including DNA, which was forwarded to the Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Identification (BCI). Law enforcement also learned the suspect was driving a white Oldsmobile Alero. A fingerprint on the note Williams passed to a teller at the Carrollton bank branch was used by BCI to make a positive identification Nov. 19.
