Charles William Markley, 78, passed away Jan. 6, 2016.
Born April 23, 1937, in Steubenville, he graduated from Carrollton High School in 1955, and was a graduate of the University of Steubenville. In 1979, he moved from Carrollton to Chandler, AZ. In June 2014, he moved to Canton, where he resided with his brother and sister-in-law until his death.
“Bill” as he was known locally, taught school for many years in Dellroy. He particularly enjoyed teaching about plant life. Gardening was one of his passions. Another of his loves was classic cars. He attended the Harsh Memorial Church and Carrollton Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by his brother, Lynn and sister-in-law, Ina Marie (Hogsed) Markley; two nephews, Jerry Lynn (Antoinette) and David Alan (Rebecca) Markley; one niece, Margaret Elizabeth (Markley) Branch and her husband, Daniel Branch; nine great nephews; nine great nieces; five great-great nephews; and five great-great nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Sparks and Florence Elizabeth (McMasters) Markley; and one nephew, John Richards Markley.
Calling hours for Bill will be Saturday Dec. 9 from 11 a.m. till noon in Allmon-Dugger-Cotton Funeral Home. A funeral service will be at noon in the funeral Home with Daniel Branch officiating. Burial will follow in Westview Cemetery in Carrollton.
