Elmer Wallace Long, 89, of Waynesburg, formerly of Carrollton, passed away Sunday, Dec. 3, 2017, in Aultman Compassionate Care Center in Canton.
Born March 1, 1928, in New Philadelphia, he was a son of the late Merrill and Geneva (Simmers) Long.
Elmer worked at Whitacre Greer Fire Proofing Company as a foreman for nearly 20 years. He worked in construction and masonry jobs. Elmer will be remembered for his sense of humor and witty personality and his love of music. He performed in several bands where he wrote songs and sang and played the lead guitar. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Dover.
He is survived by his wife, Gloria (Beitler) Long; four sons, Ron (Kathie) Long of Bowerston, Jim Long of Waynesburg, Joe (Sherry) Long of Scio and Alan (Teresa) Long of Carrollton; eight daughters, Carol (Donald) Moriconi of Waynesburg, Mary (Dan) Lowdermilk of Rockfield, KY, Donna Robison of Ashland, Nancy (Purl) Yeager, Shirley (Danny) Riggenbach and Linda (Brian) Strawder, all of Carrollton, Shelly (Mario) Morales of Chuckey, TN, and Lori (Mark) Colvin of Carrollton; a brother, Glen Long of Canton; 27 grandchildren and many loving great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. He will be missed by his dog, Scooter.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Judy; two brothers, Earl and Bill; and a son-in-law, Tim Robison.
Calling hours will be Wednesday, Dec. 6 in Allmon-Dugger-Cotton Funeral Home in Carrollton from 12-1 p.m. A funeral service will take place at 1 p.m. with Pastor Tim Livengood officiating. Burial will follow in Westview Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks donation be given to the Hospice of your choice in his memory. The family would like to thank Hospice and the staff of Aultman Compassionate Care for their care.
