There is one word to describe the performance of the Malvern boys basketball team against Beallsville Feb. 19 in the opening round of tournament play: dominating. The Hornets topped their opponent 116-54.
The Hornets were in command from the opening tip. The Malvern offense scored 27 first quarter points and held Beallsville to 25 points in the entire first half.
At the half the Hornets led 62-25.
Malvern was far from laying down to start the second half as they dumped in 24 in the third and 30 in the fourth.
Malvern junior Jaret Majestic led the Hornets with 21 points including five three-pointers. Christian Grimm’s 18 points followed Majestic’s 21 point performance. Mark Mayle was one rebound away from a double-double as he scored 14 points.
James Roundtree, Jordan Browning and Brevin Thomas added 10 points each for the winners.
The Hornets will face Bellaire St. John in the sectional final game Feb. 27 at New Philadelphia. Tip off is slated for 1 p.m.
