Malvern sophomore Kelsi Hulit set the tone for the Hornets at the Fairless Invitational. Hulit finished first and set a new meet record in discus with a throw of 134-3. She finished fourth in the shot put event.
Sara Loomis posted a second placed finish in the long jump with a measurement of 15 feet 9.5 inches at Fairless.
“Our girls continue to get better weekly and we are very proud of all the girls that participated in the Fairless Invitational,” said Coach Jeremy Maher. “We were able to compete with larger schools and once again excelled in the field events.”
“All athletes that participated today had personal bests and we hope to continue to compete at a high level in the events that we are able to fill,” noted Maher.
The Malvern girls track team kicked off the season March 26 at the Tuslaw Invitational with 59 points and a fifth place finish. Canton Central Catholic finished first with 148 points.
Hulit and Loomis paced the Lady Hornets at Tuslaw, placing first in a combined three events.
Hulit placed first in both the shot put (31’ 7.5”) and discus (110’ 3”). Loomis posted a top place finish in the long jump with 14’ 8”.
Other place finishers for the Lady Hornets were:
Third place: Loomis, 200-meter dash (28.6) and 400 (1:07.2).
Fourth place: Shania Avery, high jump (4’ 3”).
Fifth place: Loomis, 100-meter dash (14.12).
Sixth place: Avery, 110 hurdles (21.38) and 300 hurdles (1:03.1).
“The girls worked extremely hard and we excelled at the field events,” said Coach Maher. “Sara Loomis and Kelsi Hulit had amazing individual performances and Shania Avery put forth great effort in her first high school track meet.”
The Hornets are scheduled to compete at East Canton April 5. They will compete at the East Canton Invitational April 9. Events are slated to begin at 10 a.m.
