Hulit sets new record at Larry Cogan Invitational


The Malvern Lady Hornets track team finished seventh with 41 points at the Larry Cogan Invitational April 29. The Carrollton girls won the invitational with 158.5 points.

They Lady Cardinals traveled to Sandy Valley for a four-way meet against Sandy Valley, Tusky Central Catholic and Heritage Christian April 26. The Lady Hornets finished third with 40 points.

Kelsi Hulit set a new meet record in the discus throw with a throw of 124’ 3”. Hulit placed third in the shot put with a throw of 37’ 7.5”.

Sara Loomis placed second in the long jump with a jump of 15‘ 6” and the 400 with a time of 1:03.91. She placed fourth in the 200 (27.53) and fifth in the 100 (13.29).

“Sara and Kelsi consistently compete with some of the best athletes in the area,” said Malvern Head Coach Jeremy Maher. “Sara is a work horse and weekly competes hard in every event she participates in. Above that, she models what you want in a leader.”

“Kelsi set a new Warrior invitational meet record this week in discus and also carries us in the shot put and discus weekly,” said Maher. “We continue to hurt due to our low numbers but as coaches we are very proud of the hard work and dedication our girls put in every week. We look forward to our upcoming IVC meet to compete with other teams in our league.”

At Sandy Valley, Loomis won the long jump with a jump of 15’ 10”, the 400 with a time of 1:03.61 and the 200 with a time of 27.4.

Hulit finished first in the discus with a throw of 113’.

Julianna Lambert placed third in the 800 with a time of 3:40.5 and Kendra Kuhn finished fourth in the 800 with a time of 4:07.5.

The Lady Hornets are scheduled to compete at the East Canton relays May 7. Events begin at 10 a.m.
