James S. “Jim” Hemming, 63, of Monticello, IN, passed away at 7:50 a.m. Friday, Aug. 21, 2015, at the Indiana University Health Arnett Hospital in Lafayette. He was born Dec. 30, 1951, in Canton, OH, to Lois (Hardesty) Hemming of Carrollton and the late David Hemming. On June 14, 1980, he married Teresa R. Burke in Monticello who
survives. Jim had lived in the Monticello, IN, area most of his life, moving from Carrollton, OH. He was a graduate of Carrollton High School and then went on to graduate from Salem College in Salem, WV. Jim worked for the Department of Local Government Finance for the state of Indiana as an assessor/auditor 37 years this September. He never knew a stranger and could make conversation with anyone and everyone.Jim enjoyed landscaping with flowers and working on the pool. He was an avid Civil War enthusiast. Jim was also an avid Purdue University sports fan and belonged to the John Purdue Club. Surviving are his wife, Teresa R. Hemming of Monticello; a son Matthew (wife Traci) Hemming of Monticello; grandsons, Benjamin Stewart and William Thomas Hemming at home in Monticello; his mother, Lois Hemming and brother, Bill Hemming of Carrollton, TX, Jim was preceded in death by his father, David Hemming. A Celebration of Life service was held Aug. 25 in Miller-Roscka Funeral Home of Monticello, IN, with Fr. David L. Ranser of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church of Monticello officiating. Burial followed at the Oak Grove Cemetery in rural Monticello (Carroll County) Indiana.
