Joseph G. Tope, 94, 0f Red Boiling Springs, TN, formerly of Hopedale and RD. Bloomingdale, OH, went home to the Lord, Friday, June 1, 2018.
Born Sept. 8, 1923, in Carroll County, OH, he was a son of the late Wilbur and Agnes R. Gamble Tope.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, great great grandfather and companion. He graduated from Perrysville School and joined the US Army serving during WWII in Company B 180th Infantry. He was honorably discharged Sept. 30, 1945, with a Bronze Star Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Distinguished Unit Badge and the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with five bronze stars and one bronze service arrowhead.
Joe’s occupation was as a well-respected and skilled Journeyman Carpenter for Local Union. #186 Steubenville. He attended and enjoyed the fellowship at Smith Chapel United Methodist Church in Tennessee.
Joe is survived by two sons, Randy Tope and wife, Betty, of San Benito, TX, and Marsh Tope and wife, Pam, of Cadiz; daughter, Tamy Yarnell and husband, Bob, of Red Boiling Springs, TN; four grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; and companion, Delores Clifton of Bloomingdale.
He was preceded by his wife, Patty Couch Tope, in August 1986; a brother, Frank Tope; and a sister, Ruby Tope Roudebush.
Over his long life, Joe was a hard working honest man who enjoyed simple things, hunting, fishing, working in the garden and yard, eating out and visiting with family and friends.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, June 7, at 2 p.m. in Longview Cemetery, New Athens, OH, with Pastor Dean Blythe officiating. Hopedale American Legion Post #682 will provide military honors.
