Lady Warriors dominate Mustangs in season opener

Ali Poole scored 23 points as the Carrollton Lady Warriors won their season opener 61-30 over Claymont Saturday in the CHS gym.

MiKayla Poole scored 18 points followed by Angela Starre and Cailee Husted with six points apiece.

Once the Lady Warriors took the lead, they never looked back.

Carrollton led 11-7 at the end of the first quarter, but put the game away by outscoring the Mustangs 22-5 in the second quarter. The Lady Warriors led 33-12 going into halftime.

Carrollton didn’t let up in the second half, outscoing Claymont 18-8 in the third quarter. The Warriors led 51-20 going into the final quarter of play.

Carrollton’s five starters: Ali Poole, MiKayla Poole, Starre, Husted and Jaci Pridemore, contributed for 56 of the teams 61 points.

Roz Pridemore and Kierra Gubesch totaled five points coming off of the bench.

The Lady Warriors shot an impressive 49% from the field. Claymont made 33% of their shots from the field.

Carrollton grabbed 25 boards, Claymont recorded 15. The Mustangs committed nine turnovers. Jaci Pridemore and Gubesch led the Lady Warriors with five rebounds each.

Carrollton was 6-9 from the foul line, Claymont 1-1.

Fifteen of Claymont’s points came from behind the arc as they went 5 of 11 from three-point range. Carrollton was 3 of 8.

Ali Poole had three assists and two steals; MiKayla Poole, three assists and one steal; Starre, one steal and one assist; Husted, one assist and two steals; Jaci Pridemore, two assists and one steal; Gubesch, one steal, Roz Pridemore, one assist; and Mia Moore, one assist and one steal.

Carrollton’s junior varsity (JV) team defeated Claymont 24-20.

Carrollton was scheduled to travel to Dover Nov. 25 to take on the Lady Mustangs.

The Lady Warriors will travel to West Holmes Nov. 27 night. JV begins at 6 p.m followed by the varsity game.
