Lillian Adele Steele, 95, passed away Friday morning, Aug. 14, 2015, in Carroll Health Care Center after a long illness. Born June 24, 1920, in Canton, she was the last surviving 1938 graduate of Magnolia High
School. She married her high school sweetheart, Ralph C. Steele, Aug. 17, 1938. They had a wonderful life together with God, family, and music until his death in 2003. Besides being a homemaker, she worked as “Rosie, the riveter” in Canton during WWII while her husband served in the Navy.
Surviving her are her sister, Dolly Predragovich; brother, Rod (Cris) Shirley; sister-in-law, Julia Newell; daughter-in-law, Bonnie Steele; daughters, Sharon McLean and LaVonne (Glenn) Appel; and son, Randy (Rosemary) Steele, all of Carrollton; 12 grandchildren; seven step grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; 20 step great grandchildren; six great, great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, Pearl (Fausnight) and D.C. Shirley; son, James Steele; grandson, Quinton Crim; great granddaughter, Darbi Shaw; son-in-law, Russ McLean; and brothers, Clair, Woody, and Don Shirley.
She was a member of Baxter’s Ridge United Methodist Church where her services were held Aug. 18 with Pastor Richard Wallace officiating. Burial followed in Baxter’s Ridge Cemetery.
